9 June 2004 - Italian Deputy Prime Minister survives assassination attempt

A small explosion injured six people on Tuesday evening in the north-central city of Bologna, the Ansa news agency reported.

The explosion occurred during an election rally for the EU parliament attended by Italian Deputy Prime Minister Gianfranco Fini.

The explosion device was placed under an electoral campaign vehicle several meters from a platform where Fini was addressing acrowd for this weekend's European polls in Bologna's main square of Piazza Maggiore, local media reported.

Fini was not hurt in the blast.

Two of those injured were taken to hospital and the other four were treated by medics at the scene.

Explosion in German City of Cologne Probably a Bomb, Police Say

June 9 (Bloomberg) -- An explosion today that occurred in the German city of Cologne, Germany's fourth largest town, was probably caused by a bomb, a police spokeswoman said.

``From what we know at this stage, we're assuming the explosion was caused by a bomb,'' Cathrin Maus, a spokeswoman for the Cologne police, said in a telephone interview. The bomb, which detonated at about 4 p.m. local time, caused ``several'' injuries, Maus said. No further details are available at the moment, she said. Link to Article

The crude device partially exploded as Fini addressed supporters of his National Alliance party in Bologna late Tuesday, slightly injuring around 10 people........

Responsibility for the bombing in Sardinia on Monday has been claimed by a shadowy extreme-left group, the Proletarian cell for Communism.

23 Injured in Cinema Hall Blast in Tinsukia (India)
