Stamford was developed in the 50's as an economic center to back up NYC in case of a nuclear attack from Russia.

I did not know that, even though I'm quite familiar with the the Greenwich/Stamford area. Greenwich was also on the short list to become the headquarters for the United Nations, but the local gentry successfully lobbied against the plan. (If I recall correctly, the Bush family who lived in the Greenwich area at the time, was included among the gentry.)

Also- Greenwich (reachable from the water- LI Sound) is home to a large contingent of CEO's and families with "Old Money".
