So far, in the media, I've only seen notice of Moore's acknowledgement that he has this interview. There has been no question as far as why he chose Berg for an interview subject, or what contact (if any) he had with Berg following that interview.

Imagine the situation reversed, and that during Clinton's war on Serbia, it turned out Rush Limbaugh, a strident opponent of that war, had just happened to have held private meetings with an American who, shortly thereafter, somehow wound up in the hands of the Serbs, who tortured and murdered him on-camera? The media would still be eating him alive, to this day. "What was Joe Citizen doing in Serbia, Rush? Did you know he was going there? Did you SEND him there? Was he there to do your DIRTY work?
