"the" Cold War was "a" Cold War. The war on terrorism is a cold war too (although it seems to be heating up).

The Cold War (1945-1990) was a global conflict between the super powers.

This war has no central management on the "opposing side". It is Islamofascism we fight. We will neutralize the fifth columnists in America. We will break down terrorist cells around the world. We will come after governments that finance and train terrorists. We may go to war with governments that declare war on the US.

This is Cold War II/World War IV/The 21st Crusades.

Let's meet in thirty years and see what historical consensus calls the Cold War. I have my guess:

The Cold War
