Well, I remember being surprised to see so many of the Tories agains the war last year. I think this puts too high brow of a spin on it though.

It seems, and continues to seem, that the Tories adopted anti-war views for the same reason as the Democrats - crass political considerations.

Lose a war and you lose your office. So, if the Iraq war were to be lost, Bush and Blair would most likely be turned out.

Still, whereas a loss for Bush would mean Kerry and perhaps a Democrat Congress, I would lay serious odds if Blair is turned out Labor will still win the next elections and choose a *far* more leftwing leader. The Tories either can't or won't make an argument for anything other then slightly less costly me-too-ism.

Exactly....support or non-support is entirely political. This is why the left in this country can't explain it's support for the Kosovo war as opposed to Iraq.
