There was a recent story on this in the last edition of Forbes Magazine's FYI. There is a great deal more to this story and we will probably never really know what happened to the Amber room. The German Curator of that Castle Museum where the Amber room was kept, along with his wife, committed suicide right after the Red Army came and occupied that city in Germany before they could be interviewed by the KGB on the Amber Room. It may have burned up or is still hidden in one of the salt mines yet to be found with other art treasures.

I'm betting that it is hidden, but, lost. All who know/knew where it is hidden are now dead.
