Reagan's tax cuts led to the longest peace-time period of economic growth in history.

Mud tried that line on me earlier, and it didn't work then either. The longest peace-time period of economic growth in our history happened under Clinton's watch.

If the tax cuts were so effective, then why did Reagan feel the need to enact two large tax increases (one of them bigger than Clinton's tax increase) soon afterwards to curtail its effects?

The fact that a democrat spend-thrift congress was able to increase spending at four times the rate of revenue growth made our deficit emormous.

And which "democrat spend-thrift congress" would you be referring to?

And the so-called clinton belt-tightening that you mentioned only came about after a GOP congress cut up his credit card.

Au contraire, mon ami. Clinton's Balanced Budget Act came before the 1994 midterm elections, and the "Contract With America" GOoPers attempted to dismantle it because it stood in the way of massive tax cuts for their wealthy friends. They were able to tear apart Hillary's universal health care initiative, but not the balanced budget act.

One increase was very reluctantly and begrudgingly agreed to by RR.
He was promised, Sam, by your Democrat leaders of that time that for every one dollar increase in taxes, three dollars would be cut from federal outlays. Of course the latter never occurred.
This increase, you forgot to mention, was on corporation's profits.

What you liberals don't, and obviously never will, get is that for all the spinning of the facts and the outright lies you tell, especially regarding RR's two terms you forget that telling the American people that they really aren't better off just doesn't have any credence if they actually are better off.
And from the looks of RR's resounding victory over Fritz Mondale, I'd say that the American people weren't quite ready to buy any of the latest batch of Liberal Elixir.

As for the second tax increase you'll have to shake my memory on what that was.
