"There was also a lot of Klan activity in the town, and to make a long story short, when I compared the constant harassment my black and Hispanic friends received on a daily basis, with my family's indifference to same, then I think that was the genesis of my "commie liberal" thinking."

What's your view on Robert Byrd's association with the KKK?

That's a good question...Sam, why don't the DemonRATS muster up the Moral Courage necessary to purge "Sheetz" Byrd from the Senate?! Aren't you the least bit embarrassed by the more offensive characters in your Party?

My view is that it's a mistake he made almost sixty years ago, and has atoned for it since. He has an "A" rating from the NAACP, and has had for decades.

In fact, up until the '60s, the Democratic party was the party of the south, and as such, was filled with racists and quasi-racists, (such as Byrd and Strom Thurmond) who would be appaling to me today, from a civil rights standpoint. But as the Republican party began pandering more to folks in the Deep South with strong racist ties, the party identities with regards to civil rights began to change.
