Having a hard time figuring out what type of device this was. Usually need two sensors in a beam interruption device and how does one bury this type of device without interrupting the beam oneself.

What if the receiving beam is placed on the train itself. What if the train is fitted with a device that receives the beam and sets off an explosion on the train.

Standard wireless Infrared Motion Sensor like would be used in a home security system. The ones in my house are about 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" made to fit in a corner and probably have a range of about 100'. Batteries for them are lithium and last 3-5 years.

The placing of the device may well be part of the terror, to get us worried and to remind us that these guys are here.
