Frankly, this policy is idiotic. And if one of my kids were in this school, I'd be raising hell to get it changed.

You're either part of the problem, or part of the solution, I'm going out on a limb and categorizing that response as part of the problem. You'd "raise hell"? And what do you teach your kids? To always be suspicious of their teachers, and the rules? To be sure, there are bad rules, but there are more reasonable ways to handle that. Don't involve the kids, quietly talk to the teachers and find out their reasons for doing things, and see if there can be compromise. Teachers do work for us, and they are aware of that.

Damn right I would. Both the principal and the school board would be hearing from me -- and from other parents as well.

I'm not one of those people who take the position that "my kids are always right". Far from it. But this policy is idiotic, and I would have no problem making my opinion known.

And what do you teach your kids?

To think independently and to stand up for what they think is right.
