Pray for the folks at home, too. I see this as a sly threat of what could happen here. Easily. Which is why we went to war over there. (not to panic or anything)

I would like to see pictures of the shell, and I would like to see more education of the public on possible ways for terr'ists to disperse the stuff here.

"Lethal doses of sarin contained in this shell: 6,534,000 to 8,712,000"

So, in a very general sense, if the dispersal was only 1% efficient, this could kill, oh,

65000 PEOPLE!!??

The left needs to have a nice big steaming cup of STFU, and let our forces scour Iraq for this stuff.

"All we really need now is to know when it was manufactured..."

Nahh. Regardless of when it was manufactured the fact is it was found. The UN inspectors said there wasn't any. France, Russia and Germany said there wasn't any. The entire Democrat party said there wasn't any. The liberal media said there wasn't any.

Suprise!!!

Now the excuses and spin begins. Hmm.. There was only 1. It wasn't powerful enough to do any damage. It was pre 1991. It is binary, so the Americans must have sold it to Hussein. The shell was rusted.

Bush should go on the air tonight and have a press conference. And tell the country that now is the time to rally around the troops.

While he is at it he can tell Shrillary to stfu.

You are clearly an educated fellow; isn't this stuff something less than serious?

An artillery shell filled with mixable ingredients that form 'sarin gas' when exploded????

Your countrymen are in harms way, coming home in body bags or without limbs and yet look how excited the masses get? No adult conservative can think this a healthy situtation.

DRUDGE just picked it up from Fox. But why isn't there his major siren alert???

The major wires can't ignore it if there is a DoD news conference. Why don't they put on 'The Rummy Show' for us? That will make the top story on CNNNBCCBSABC - or maybe not.

You admitted in another thread you were mistaken. That alone puts you (in my book) in the top 5% of free republic posters :^)

Just thought you might be interested that instead of minute it was 3-4 liters! Almost a gallon!

There is never just ONE each, artillery shell. These things come in "lots" when they are manufactured.

If the shell exploded, I wonder how they knew a gallon of sarin was in it?

According to at least one blogger, Iraq had declared that it did not have binary sarin in artillery shells.

The blogger is incorrect.

Iraq actually admitted to the UN that they had produced prototypes of binary 155 sarin shells, but had not gone into full production.

I don't know if we'll see a Rummy show about this today. I don't know if his hyping it would help, though I don't deny that this is as serious a development as could be imagined.

This story is building its own momentum, and an official addressing of it will come about, I sincerely believe.

No adult conservative would consider sarin gas "less than serious".

Especially considering that the chances of there being just one of these in Iraq are nil.

If there were a thousand, no, a million artillery shells that could at most travel, what, a few miles in the air, would you still think it worth the life of your own son?

If this doesn't make the wires other than Fox, I really hope there will be an official news conference ASAP. This news needs to be out there in the MSM. If they won't do it voluntarily, then call their hand by forcing a news conference on them.

I would advise Rumsfield because he has 'war gravitas' and he was the one who cautioned that the shell may not contain sarin yesterday.

IED Shell contained 3-4 LITERS of SARIN

Lethal dose of Sarin: 0.5 milligrams.
Density: 1.089 g/cm3
Grams per liter: 1,089g
Lethal doses per liter: 2,178,000
Lethal doses of sarin contained in this shell: 6,534,000 to 8,712,000

Hey, JG...STILL wanna claim that Sarin isn't a WMD?!?!

Wow, that is a key point! These sarin shells may not look any different than the thousands of other olive drab shells strewn all over and under Iraq. Now only the dudes who set off this last IED know where a 'special' pile is.

Even if we find a thousand shells full, you can bet the vast left-wing conspiracy will claim Rummy had them in his pocket during his visit to the prison. As usual, only FOX news will run it hard, the others will still be on Abu Ghraib and how we deserve whatever the 'freedom fighters' throw at us. Kennedy will say all the WMD was made in Crawford, Texas. Gore Lick and been Vindictive will say it's not relevant to 9/11. Hillary's pantsuit will not comment. Daschle will be deeply saddened.

sarin is one of the most deadly compounds known.

FYI. A flashback from Oct 2003:

The vial of botulinum bacteria discovered in Iraq by U.S. arms inspectors – which experts call the most poisonous substance known to man – is "a weapon of mass destruction," the State Department's top spokesman announced yesterday.

"Botulinum kills people, it kills people in large quantities. Botulinum is a weapon of mass destruction, yes," said State spokesman Richard Boucher," according to an Agence France-Presse report. "Anything that destroys on a massive scale is a weapon of mass destruction."

The botulinum had been stored in a vial discovered in an Iraqi scientist's refrigerator, where it had been stored for safe keeping since 1993.

According to Agence France-Presse, the Center for Civilian Bio-defense Strategies at Johns Hopkins University says: "Botulinum toxin is the single most poisonous substance known" and "poses a major bioweapons threat because of its extreme potency and lethality, its ease of production, transport and misuse, and the potential need for prolonged intensive care in affected persons."

WND

Botulinum toxin is the most poisonous substance known. A single gram of crystalline toxin, evenly dispersed and inhaled, would kill more than 1 million people, although technical factors would make such dissemination difficult.

Journal of the American Medical Association

But that wasn't WMD, it wasn't nuclear...it was from the Gulf War...Bush still lied...blah, blah, blah...ad nauseam...< /sarcasm>
