Yet there is unease as we go into these days of honoring our precious sons and daughters for their service and sacrifice. The enemy wishes to strike at us again and again, and he will be afforded many opportunities in a free and open society. Let not one threat or attack against our President or his family be successful; let not one threat or attack against any of our leaders be successful; let not one plan of attack on our country be carried out; let nothing stand of the enemy except his absolute defeat. May our vigilance join with that of our defenders, even as we go about in the honor and activity of Memorial Day events. May our national heart be laid bare with tearful gratitude as we thank these men and women and their families. May a special blessing rest upon each household that has sent forth a defender, many not to return to the warmth of their home. We bow our heads and our hearts to You, and them, in gratitude.
