Yes I wonder why do they now claim responsibility for flight 587? Are they just trying to boost up their terrorist resume or is there some reason to have not said anything for 2 1/2 years?
There were some very unusual incidents on that day. I will have to look up that thread.
Actually, there were claims in jihad media as there were for TWA800.
According to this post on FR after the crash of AA587:
The computer messing up can and has caused FLUTTER. Flutter will literally vibrate a control surface from an airplane. The Airbus has had its share of Flutter problems. And yes Flutter can go from non existent to disasterous in a couple of seconds and the pilot will not know it until it is too late. The Missing Vertical Stabilizer could easliy result in loss of control if flutter had caused it to break off. Since the rudder was not attached to the Vertical Stabilizer when they were found, Flutter goes to the head of the line as suspect for the accident.

Just an FYI as more info. I had forgotten what happened until I re-read the account.
I remember the vertical stabilizer tore off of the plane in midair. Note the rudder was not attached when found.
The news reports of wake turbulence I think are pure BS as a reason.
Either 1/ CRAPPY AIRPLANE or
2/ CRAPPY MAINTENANCE
