Vanilla, Lavender, Peppermint (plant rubbed on skin or Essential Oil), Lemon and of course Citronella.
Deet has some bad reports on it, it has been blamed for the
Gulf War Syndrone of war #1.
Possibly the very best is the Avon Skin So soft, Original formula, I even used that on my horses.
I would be allergic to Deet, so have not tried it.

The alternatives sound a lot better. Deet is not a very pleasant smell to my allergy ridden nose.
