I would imagine it would draw an excellent cross-section of visitors == military and civilian casualties. It's large enough of an event for a lot of local news coverage but not to the level of a political convention/olympics/political summit. Security might be increased but not up to previous listed events.
Also - topic shift, if I may - I have read about an increase in disappearances of college students. Has this crossed anyone else's path? Is it Urban Legend?

Hmm, conjecture on my part here.
I just heard tonight from someone who is very upset that a college friend of hers has had to give up her visa as she's graduating from college in a few weeks, and has to leave the country due to stricter ins enforcement apparently.
If students are disappearing, perhaps it's due to the crackdown by the ins, and students deciding they don't want to leave, etc.
Just speculating here though. I haven't heard the info that you heard.
