Every year in Portland, OR there is a week long festival; the Rose Festival. It's a big annual event, the crowing of the rose queen, parades, etc. Every year for this festival there are quite a few military ships that come in. R & R for the sailors and pre 9/11 people could tour the ships.

Is there any event in your neck of the woods that would bring the military ships in, to participate in the festivities? Something planned for Memorial weekend? Just trying to think of a plausible explanation, otherwise, it would make me nervous!

I have been checking, but so far I have found no mention of any celebrations over the Memorial Day week-end that include military ships. The last time I saw military ships in that area it was in the weeks after 9/11.
