This IS in the modern media and they're doing the "now it can be told" spiel in order to taint the military in general in peoples' minds as inept when they're not busy being inhumane (ala the prison abuse story, for example).

See?

Imagine this in the modern media.

If the "modern media" existed back then, D-Day would have been tipped off to the Germans days in advance:

"CNN has learned exclusively that the much anticipated invasion of the European mainland will, despite the bad weather, occur on June 6th. Further, reliable sources tell CNN that the invasion will take place on the beaches of Normandy, rather than the Port of Calis, which was widely assumed to be the landing point for allied forces. Stay with CNN for continuing coverage of this historic development as the war continues".

Imagine this in the modern media.

I expect to read this headline any day now: Democrats Outraged that GWB and Rumsfeld Did Nothing to Stop Friendly-Fire Disaster!
