Army intelligence officers suspected that a Syrian and admitted Jihadist who was detained at Abu Ghraib prison outside Baghdad knew about the illegal flow of money, arms and foreign fighters into Iraq. But he was smug, the officers said, and refused to talk. So last November, they devised a special plan for his interrogation, going beyond what Army rules normally allowed.
An Army colonel in charge of intelligence-gathering at the prison, spelling out the plan in a classified cable to the top U.S. military officer in Iraq, said interrogators would use a method known as "fear up harsh," which military documents said meant "significantly increasing the fear level in a security detainee." Their aim was to make the 31-year-old Syrian think his only hope in life was to talk, undermining his confidence in what they termed "the Allah factor."
According to the plan, interrogators needed the assistance of military police supervising his detention at the prison, who ordinarily play no role in interrogations under Army regulations. First, the interrogators were to throw chairs and tables in the man's presence at the prison and "invade his personal space."

Maybe I'm nutzs, but I think even the average American swing voter will look at this Abu Ghraib stuff as "yeah it was wrong, but it's not even close to what they have done to guys like Nick Berg."
I guess we'll see.

Are you kidding? Saddam will be aquitted and elected President of Iraq.
Aren't you the optimist!?
LOL
We are sure soft in this country. I wonder how many 9-11s it will take to toughen us up?
It seems to me that the Democrats and their media allies have this election "planned". By that I mean each week has an event designed to attach the administration up to the election. If the planned event doesn't work or is overshadowed by events, they will apply their spin to the real world. Going back a few weeks, there was the Clarke book and 60 min., The allout attack on Dr. Rice, the President's testimony with Chaney, then the Woodward Book (which flopped so they had to take it out of context). Next, Joe Wilson's book was scheduled but Prisongate has been better press. They will probably insert Michael Berg's rantings next week, and so on.
They were so confident they would consolidate their power with Gore that they miscalculated and an election actually took place -- with the DUI suprise. This time it seems they will not allow it to go to an election -- at least not to a meaningful one. You can control the press and still lose, the Democrats did that last time. This time they will try their best to disenfranchise us. I hope something can be done about it but we need some help by events and the terrorists are working very hard for their boy -- JFK.
Not anymore.
When I saw that the Nick Berg story was being presented as being Bush's fault I knew it was over.
The media can't tell us what to think, but they can tell us what to think about.
The media have decided that Bush must fall and so he shall.
when his own party largely deserts him there's no room for optimism.
Do you ever see the good things in Iraq or do you purposely avoid posting about and commenting on them?..
I'm bookmarking this thread and we shall see in Novemeber.
It will be a great lesson to show people an example of Chicken Little syndrome.
And on talk radio, people were criticizing daddy Berg for blaming Bush. Even on C-Span a majority of callers were criticizing him.
Look, for the most part we here on FR are the choir, we don't really need to be preached to.
And as much as we like to tell ourselves otherwise, we really don't have that much influence.
What has me down in the dumps are the things I see going on in Washington and fly-over country.
Rem,ember, both LBJ and Truman decided not to seek reelection because their poll ratings indicated that they were sure losers.
Dubya's numbers dont have all that far to fall before they are down there too.
You are wrong.
Everyone, needs to read the new book by Vince Flynn called "Memorial Day". It really puts all of this into the right perspective. Oh yeah, Rapp gets the info he needs...
Did you kill a troll? Did I miss something? Dammit, I always miss these things!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!
Did you kill a troll? Did I miss something? Dammit, I always miss these things!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!
The GOP pols and that includes those in the White House are completely ignoring the concerns of the base.
We have to have some reason for hope and they're not willing or able to provide us with any.
WE need to get through to them somehow that they're losing us.
We?...Since when do you think Bush is losing "us".
Never give up.
Us? What's this us? Hey they are losing you as of 5/16/04 and IMO losing a person who makes Chicken Little look cool as a cucumber.
Take a chill pill. There are 5 and 1/2 months to go.
