See my post above about performers unfamiliar with how they sound standing on a stage with a loud house mix and trying to hear yourself on the stage foldback monitors (those upward-facing speakers on the floor of the stage). People who have experience with this know how to compensate for the situation - and those who haven't done much of this can easily be tricked by the physics of sound into over-compensating and, thus, be out of tune.

Jasmine's "pitchyness" seems strange to me since I know she *can* sing. Early on in the competition (can't remember the exact song) she sounded *really* good. I'd have laughed at someone saying her pitch was off.
You're dead right about that one. Jasmine has real problems with that very isssue. Tuesday it was literally painful for me to listen to her performances. She also has a knack for picking songs that are absolutely devastating to the ears if there is the slightest pitch issue.
Why wouldn't they give them ear pieces?
