Berg Had Koran, 'Anti-Semitic' Book
NewsMax.com ^ | 5/14/04 | Carl Limbacher and the NewsMax.com staff

Nick Berg had a bit of a strange run the last few years - starting with the "coincidental" usage of his e-mail account by the alleged 20th 9-11 hijacker - ending with his beheading at the hands of terrorists in Iraq.

He is described by various news agencies as a techno-genius, a dreamer, a wanderer, a funnyman and the ultimate Curious George.

Today, Philly.com revealed another item about Berg: "Berg's stubborn wanderlust made him a target of suspicion - a religious Jew riding around Mosul in a taxi with a copy of the Koran. ... Some U.S. soldiers even wondered if the patriotic Berg was 'a wannabe freedom fighter.'"

So what was he doing in Iraq? A friend told Fox News he thought Berg was "sailing in Turkey." (Sure ... if we were to go sailing, that's the place we'd choose as well.)

When Berg was arrested in Mosul, he had two items with him that made authorities nervous: A copy of the Koran, and another book reportedly entitled either "The Jewish Problem" or "The Jewish Solution." Why a Jew would be carrying these items is unclear, but Berg supporters say it was like him to be curious about such things.

Berg also refused to leave Iraq when asked to do so by the State Department.

He not only apparently felt the need to help rebuild Iraq, but he also wanted to go into business doing so. He told jailors that he was losing thousands of dollars while being detained.

He had worked in Africa (Uganda), and had some kind of a relative living in Mosul, so that's where he went in Iraq. He was only arrested because he was an unaccompanied American in a place where that was out of place.

A military source in Iraq told the Philadelphia Daily News, "He was jailed because unescorted Americans aren't usually seen downtown and 'they didn't know what to do with him.'

"Police were suspicious because of 'his demeanor'" and the two books he had.

Berg was, according to the paper, "under Iraqi control... the FBI also questioned Berg three times and visited his parents back in West Chester."

Authorities tried to tell Berg to go home, and offered to pay for everything, but he told them, "You don't understand these people like I do. You're here for a reason - and so am I."

On April 6th, Berg was released from jail, and three days later he disappeared.

Can you imagine..Your son is slaughtered before the whole world. You tell people you are yin and your son is yang. He supported President Bush. You are a commie with deep ties to anti American groups. You then desecrate the memory of your son by saying your son dies for Bush's sins. You mock your sons beliefs.

Something is really smelly here.

The fact the Father IMMEDIATELY painted him as pro-Bush, pro-war, etc. is weird too, especially since he himself was so anti-war.

Good possibilties. But, I still do not trust our media. They have never said that this lawyer bastard Mayfield from Oregon was a MOslem, and an activist too!

Locally, here in Oklahoma, they're reporting that it was his computer that was used to send email, not just the email password. He was apparently interviewed by the FBI after 9/11. Maybe you could do a google search on it. So far, all my info is from television news, local and Fox News Channel. There might be something on Fox.

But it is sounding more and more like Nick Berg and his father are Al Qaeda sympathizers who sold their out their country (and father Berg his son) for the anti-war, anti-Bush group ANSWER.

Yeah, but throw his dumb @$$ in jail, he didn't deserve such a horrible, violent death. Especially not at the hands of spear-chucking barbarians.

"So you're saying the DUmmies are RIGHT?"

Have no idea -- whatsoever -- what the morons at the DU sewer are prattling, MCC.
None, nada, nyet.
Never been there, never goin' there, ever.

What I'm saying is simple, the Berg affair stinks; and, the deeper they're [read: mediots] digging the more it smells.

Let the facts come out over the next few days & we may (or may not) be quite surprised.

I'm content to wait & see for now, but one thing's pretty much for certain.

...the whole story has not been revealed.

Oh I totally agree. If anything, N. Berg was a sacrifical lamb at the hands of his own father and AQ- not the Bush administration.

"...Berg had earned $70,000 in the last month in Iraq."

Doing what, I wonder? On this thread, at post 469, Freeper P-Marlowe brings up some interesting facts about communications tower building and repairing. It sounds doubtful that he actually did any of that. So if he earned $70,000 in a month, you'd really have to ask "how"--and "where."

It was in the article about the John Loftus radio interview, where he referred to FreeRepublic being an right-wing extremist web-site that posted an enemies list.

How much do you want to bet that George Soros is a financial backer of Al Qaeda.

I've begun to suspect that for some time. A textbook for a course I took last year said that Al Qaeda existed before UBL was on the scene and that they had recruited him to be their front man. I floated that idea here on FR about a year ago and was resoundly told that was crazy, that UBL had created the group. I still think that the book was right.

I have read that he was a specialist in repairing the mico-wave towers, that he would climb them and put them back in order after they were knocked out.

Hi Linda, you raise so many *excellent* points -- you sharpie-you! {g} -- that I'm tempted to throw my client under the bus (send 'em to Penny's) & respond.

But I'm afraid the Siren's song of dollars & cents too strong for a mere mortal, such as I.

But that doesn't mean I don't intend on digging in when I'm finished.

...bank on it. ;^)

Didn't his friends also say he was dirt poor in Iraq?

I've been thinking of the Japanese "hostages" a lot too. It would be mere speculation to think the same thing was going on with Berg, yet, what was he doing over there? According to some who know the radio tower business, it seems unlikely he was doing that kind of work.

With the remarks coming from Berg's father now, can you imagine what he would have had to say had the State dept. forced his son to leave Iraq?

Oh yeah, I can just picture what the Reuter's headline would have been:

Bush Administration Quashed American's Business Aspirations
