NEVER FORGET
From Los Angeles Times Staff Writer: DAVID HALDANE
'To Vietnamese Communists, From Garden Grove: Stay Away
To the delight of observing crowds, council members easily pass a resolution voicing opposition to visits by Hanoi delegations'
Link to follow below.
(Speaking before the Garden Grove City Council last night I read my letter in support of their Resolution saying "NO" to Communism in their City that appeared in Sunday's Los Angeles Times. It was a response to an Editorial calling such a Resolution a .."Rights Lapse in Little Saigon"..!)
QUOTE:
THOSE WHO'VE LEARNED THE LESSONS of FREEDOM
May 9, 2004
Re "Rights Lapse in Little Saigon," editorial, April 29:
...As a veteran who fought for Freedom in Vietnam long ago, I applaud the example set by America's Vietnamese American communities' love of Freedom, especially in a new Time of War, with our own Freedom now at stake. I feel it unfortunate that The Times forgets that 29 years ago there was a total "rights lapse" in South Vietnam's real Saigon that still free Vietnamese Americans here will never forget. It is their way of fighting for Freedom's return there. It should by ours.
...Garden Grove's and Westminster's proposed ordinances (Resolutions) requiring the advance notification of coming Communist Vietnamese leaders' visits are responsible moves. They reflect the feelings of their communities, guarantee public safety concerns and protect city budgets from excessive security costs. Most of all, they provide excellent examples for Commumnist Vietnam to see how a free people's wishes are followed by their government ...instead of the other way around.

NEVER FORGET
Silly question, but on the off chance...if your first name is Tammy, would you FReep mail me?
Just because the leaders of these countries maintain an iron grip on power does not mean that they will stay there forever; just ask Idi Amin, Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier or Saddam Hussein. All we need is a few more people like the residents of Grove City. As the old adage says: "one man can make a revolution."

Many fleeing Vietnamese-Americans did settle in Central Orange County CA, including the cities of GARDEN GROVE, WESTMINSTER, and SANTA ANA after the Fall of Saigon.
'Little Saigon Businessmens District Monuments' now stand in these cities as well in tribute to their outstanding contributions to all over the decades.
Many Vietnamese-Americans who ended up settling in the MILPITAS Area of Northern California during the 1970's went to school there and then on to help fuel the Silicon Valley Computer Revolution of the 1980's that spawned America's Computer driven Economic Boom of the 1990's.
GOD does indeed seem to work His Miracles in some very Loving Ways..?

I wonder why you haven't heard more from this group when it comes to statewide politics. There was even a scandal-tarred, Korean-American congressmen in that part of California, and yet I haven't heard of expatriates from S. Vietnam participating to a great extent in California's politics.
What about that guy Van Vo, who ran in the gubernatorial recall election, what's he doing now? I think he got a couple thousand votes the last go-round, if I'm not mistaken.

GARDEN GROVE City Councilman and Attorney VAN TRAN is the 1st Vietnamese-American in U.S. History to be elected to a City Council.
In November he will become the 1st Vietnamese-Americn to be elected to a State Legislature in U.S. History, in this case the California State Assembly.
After decades of gaining its Political Self-Confidance I have been blessed to witness this Community's coming of age...
...in FREEDOM.

Then again, it took approximately the same amount of time-say about two decades, or so-for the Cuban emigres to gain a seat at the table in South Florida and the Jersey shoreline.

There you go, ain't FREEDOM great?

I guess that this sould be a 100% Kerry free zone as well in November too!!

Here's an update from the Orange County Register on the stunning influence the Vietnamese-American Community in Central Orange County now wields in Politics:
