As an American [applied for citizenship here from Iran since 1999], and a Muslim i would like to strongly condemn the brutal beheading of a fellow American in the hands of Barbarians.
I also, condemn Islamic terrorism across the world and join millions of others in Iran and i'm sure other places across the middle east in condemning these horrible acts.
I moved here in 2000, i was a part of the student uprisings in 1999 in Iran. The very thing that the US is fighting right now in the middle east, are what students in Iran are fighting.
There is no difference between their fight and ours, nor the fight across the middle east between the modernized - moderate form of islam and the radical form.
Unfortunately, moderates have been unwilling to take arms or act aggressively against radical islam and when we have we've been condemned for human rights abuses.
That's all.. after reading some of the posts on here i just wanted to say i'm Muslim and i condemn these acts.

EVERYTIME I go there I get the "cannot connect to server" messages. Are you behind a firewall that may be blocking access?
(I've been reading this thread for the past hour & have opened a window to the site in question 3 times.)

You're right. I guess people on this forum were just shocked and angry, and would never really act on what they posted here yesterday.

Columbus was an idiot. An idiot? His objective was to sail to India - his contemporaries did not even know that what is now known as the "Americas" existed. He thought he was in INDIA. Remember that most people of his time thought the earth was FLAT.
An idiot? Not quite.

It's like the Mafia. You can't resign or leave unless it's feet first. Yes and the best thing we could hope for those we like or have some empathy for would be their liberation --- a way of life that gives them some freedom of belief.

"Good man, as your namesake was as well. Thank you for speaking out." Dittos to that.
What a great thread this has been for exposing the hypocrites in this forum.
Finally, one courageous Muslim steps up into the spotlight in FR and speaks his mind, condemning the violence of the extremists, only to be insulted by our very own extremists.
Great post Cyrus, I'm proud to make your acquaintance.

Zoroastrians believe in one God - Ahura-Mazda - translated it means "Divine Wisdom". They believe in the existence of another evil being Ahriman - very similar to the Christian concept of Satan.
Some Zoroastrians believe the struggle between good and evil is the result of the struggle between Ahura-Mazda and Ahriman for men's souls. Other Zoroastrians believe that the struggle between Good and Evil occurs within each one of us.

Are you disputing that Zoroastrianism is the world's first monotheistic religion, or that it is the oldest??
Zoroaster is believed to have lived over 3000 years ago. This is based on linguistic studies of the original Zoroastrian texts and their comparison with more modern version of the Persian language. That would predate Moses.
Also, the early Israelites believed in many gods. It was only much later that the Yawehist tradition of one true God being the ONLY God, and not just the National God of Israel, came to be. As a matter of fact, many theologians believed that the monotheistic belief of the Israelites was generally adopted in place of monothelism (the worship of only one God among many which exist) AFTER the Babylonian captivity when the Jews were exposed to Zoroastrian beliefs in Mesopotamia.
There are TWo traditions in the old Testament - the Yawahist which refers to God in the singular by YHWH and the Elohist tradition, in which the Hebrew refers to God as Elohim, a plural noun related etymologically to Allah and Bal (Phoenician for God)

You should read the Psalms where David regularly sings/prays of one God, not many.
Monotheism is very plain.

Dispute it, if you dare. Jihad: The fifth pillar of Islam. The fifth pillar is Hajj. Learn before you write.
Ok, you make a point ... it's not the fifth pillar ... but it's there. And it will be their undoing.

As a human being, I would like to put in a good word for the maintenance of all the standard-issue parts; if my god tells me otherwise I may decide to overlook the loss of a couple of non-essential ones.

Adam, the first man, had the true religion. Before he sinned, he walked with God. After he sinned, God graciously promised a Savior to Adam. Adam worshiped the one true God. His direct descendents received the Holy Scriptures from the one true God. All religions, other than the Hebrew religion, up to the time of Christ, to the extent they contained any trace of truth about God, were corruptions and perversions of the true religion passed down from Adam and eventually written down in the Hebrew Scriptures.
