A Canadian student who ordered an MP3 player over the internet from the US was shocked to receive a licensed handgun instead. Brandon Buchan, 21, an English student at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, bid for the MP3 player on eBay, the Star Phoenix newspaper said.
The pawnshop that auctioned the device sent him an unloaded .22-calibre Smith & Wesson gun and a licence by mistake.
A Canadian customs official said not all parcels were X-rayed at the border.
'I'm no hit man'
The package, sent by courier, was labelled as containing an MP3 player.
"I was really shocked to see it was a gun," Mr Buchan told the newspaper.
"I'm not a hit man. I was mostly confused about it all. I thought 'How did this end up here?', and I figured it must just be a mistake."
The third-year student called the police, who removed the weapon.
He also e-mailed the shop, who are arranging for his MP3 player to be sent to him.
Mr Buchan says he is keeping a photocopy of the gun licence as a souvenir of the incident.
Applicants for firearm licences in Canada are subject to background checks, and all firearms must be registered.

A better mixup would have been a HK MP5. :=)

I'd take the gun over the MP3 player too, but I'd hope for a bigger gun than a .22

Yea, everyone with a .22 handgun is a hit man. What a slack-jawed little retard.

I'm so freepin' speechless ...
"The third-year student called the police, who removed the weapon."
" He also e-mailed the shop, who are arranging for his MP3 player to be sent to him."
Little Markie has grown up and moved to Canada where he learned to want his MTV rather than his Maypo.
A friggin' gift ... and the @$$hole turns it in.
Speechless.

This story smells like last months fish!
Ebay prohibits the sale or listing of firearms. It's done so since 1999 or 2000 I believe.

What sort of "license?" Like James Bond--a license to kill?

The third-year student called the police, who removed the weapon. What a flipping weasel. He gave the cops a Smith? If it were legal, he should have sold it if he's got an allergy to firearms.

And I hope you don't try with a .22!Actually, the .22 is the prefered weapon of assassins. The bullets tend to bounce all around in the head.

MTV is illegal up here. We have MuchMusic, owned by people well connected with the regulators.

And I hope you don't try with a .22! Actuall, a lot of hit men use .22s. A shot at the base of the skull. There's a good movie (forget the name) with actor Joe Piscopo. The .22 was their hardware choice.

That was pretty funny where he asked a grown up to come and take the gun away. Good boy, Markie!

No doubt this involved the bomb squad and the evacuation of the building.

Looks like a model 617. Sweet shooter.

Did he put it to his ear and listen for music when he pulled the power switch? :-)

Judging by the barrel underlug and direction of cylinder rotation, that gun appears to be 6" Colt Python, not a S&W. It should be worth ~ 700 bucks. The Canukians will probably destroy it.
