The question was whether AK-47's had been issued, not whether they had been confiscated.

Confiscated, then issued. Did you not read the link? Issued due to the lack of rifles amongst certain units. It was deemed a good force multiplier by US units in Iraq. UK forces did the same thing in certain circumstances. The rounds were very easy to come across.

Call me a sceptic, but someone definitely didn’t like that AK-47 story. It has now disappeared from newsobserver.com
