My "whiney hyperbole" never caused anyone to be sick. If you want to smoke fine just don't FORCE me to inhale your habit. I'm sure that Applebee's will find many more customers, who avoided inhaling your smoke, by avoiding eating there, to take your place .

Come on now, many restaurants really do a good job of keeping the air seperated(at least so your can't smell it). The few times I've been in an Applebee's that allow smoking, I've not smelt the fumes. That said, I support a private business' decision to not have smoking in their restaurant, but like someone else pointed out Mr. Scanlon is a hypocrit since he does not support businesses making the same decision for themselves in Lexington.
That said, Cracker Barrel is the absolute worse for their smoking vs non smoking sections. I can smell the smoke from the smoking section every time in that place--it is the worse.

Wow! Another believer in Junk Science.....
Show any one here on this forum a credible study that conclusively shows that second hand smoke is dangerous......
BTW, I neither support or disavow Applebee's for banning smoking, that's a private corporations decision.....
What I do dismiss is self appointed safety Nazi's that believe they have a obligation and right to tell me what I'm allowed to do.
I smoke cigars, never cigarettes, but I'm a polite smoker and would never light up in an enclosed area other than my home or local cigar bar.

I don't smoke so try again. But it is hypocritical for me to complain about the cigarette across the restaurant while I am staring at the smoking skillet of fajitas in front of me. Smoke is smoke.
I don't have a problem with a restaurant banning smoking but I don't want the government involved.

Don't even bother trying to use logic on these black lung fools. Trust me, it won't work. They are so afraid of losing their liberties, they forget that smoking is harmful to everyone that comes in it's path - smokers and non-smokers alike. Even my dogs don't want to be around smokers.

If the owner or a restaurant wants to ban smoking in their establishment, that is their choice, but don't use the heavy hand of govmint to force other owners to adopt your ban.
Likewise, smokers should be free to smoke where they wish to do so. If you are a non-smoker you can go to a smoke free establishment.
However, smokers should not force the non-smoking population to pick up the costs associate with your habit. Shifting the cost of one's habit to others that do not engage in your habit should never be allowed.

Have you ever worn aftershave? Ever eaten peanuts on a bus, train, or plane? Ever drink and drive? Ever drive tired? Ever drive sick? Ever change the stations while you drive, or answer your cellphone while driving?
For women, ever put makeup on in the car?
These are all indulgences that could make someone sick or dead. Why focus on smoking, just because it happens to bother you.
You don't have to inhale someone's habit at a smoking restaurant. Just sit in non-smoking, or eat somewhere else.
