Iraqis are right to resist; Bring our troops home: they are "murdering other people’s children"
Columbia, Missouri Daily Tribune - letter to the Editor ^ | Published Saturday, May 8, 2004 | Michael R. Lawler

(Dear) Editor, the Tribune: An occupied people have a right to resist. Apologize and bring our troops home now!

The invasion and occupation of Iraq were always about stealing Iraqi resources, privatizing the Iraqi economy to please corporate interests under the guise of "democracy" and building U.S. military bases in Iraq to strong-arm everyone in the region. The myth of WMD, administration lies connecting Saddam with 9/11, the fear-mongering over the forged Niger yellow-cake hoax, etc., were all shamelessly playing off the 9/11 event.

There are more than 10,000 Iraqi civilians dead, more than 620 U.S. military members killed and billions of taxpayer dollars wasted. The ridiculous lie that Iraqis would welcome U.S. invaders is exposed. What a foolish notion it is that Americans would be welcomed after the 1991 war - the aftermath of which oppressed Iraqis with U.S.-sponsored sanctions for over 12 years, murdering 5,000 preschoolers monthly for lack of clean water and basic medicines, according to U.N. figures.

Americans should realize that an occupied people have a right to exist. Americans should bring our troops home, apologize and care for them properly; Bush is cutting veterans’ care and benefits. Apologies and reparations to the Iraqi people should be required as they rebuild their country. Bush and his administration should be tried for war crimes. Our foreign policy is a disaster. We wonder why we are hated. Imagine what we could do for our children with our tax money if we weren’t spending it murdering other people’s children half a world away!

My letter to the editor in response to the jackass Lawler:
Sir,
I wish to respond to a recent letter in your paper by Michael R. Lawler in support of the Iraqi's.

Mr. Lawler,
If all you claim in your letter is true, and our Govt. and Military are convicted "baby-killers" (a term you eloquently avoided, but certainly intended), I want to know how you could bring yourself to continue living in this Country? Why haven't you jumped the first flight or train into either Canada or Mexico? Can't afford it? Do you need a loan? If you don't have the money, and don't want to be indebted to a filthy American whose society kills innocent children in the name of Exxon, maybe suicide is the answer. Drug overdose is probably less painful than living with the guilt of being an American. Can't stand the sight of Ol' Glory? Jump off a bridge, or better yet, a highway overpass during rush hour. Maybe you could get real lucky and be hit by a Toyota or Hyundai, one of those energy-efficient foreign models. We here in the U.S. are really sympathetic to your blatant anti-American positions.
A direct attack on U.S. soil, killing innocent civilians isn't enough to get you to realize that our way of life is under attack, and we are currently at War with the people who would rather see you dead than print your views. This may not be enough to get you angry and stand behind the decision of our President, the man we the People elected despite your distaste for him. It is time to put away your selfish ideals and get with the program that the majority of Americans believe is righteous I lost a lot of friends on 9-11-01, I saw the devastation up close and personal that day. I will never forget it, and pray that the rest of America won't either. War sucks, and innocents sometimes die, we express our sympathies and move on. When somebody bloodies our nose, as Americans we stand up and fight back. If the fanatical Islamist society doesn't learn this lesson right now, prepare for more attacks here in the USA, as we will only embolden them to try again.

"...were all shamelessly playing off the 9/11 event."

Event? A rock concert is an event. 911 was an atrocity, a massacre, a tragedy, an outrage. To call it an "event" shows how little it means to the leftists. May they all die at the hands of the scum they support and defend.

I guess it doesn't matter that thes "children" are all grown up and shooting at us first.

I would suppose it is not a big problem ignoring the MILLIONS of people dead because of the "children" of Saddam's regime.

The only baby-killers here are under arrest, dead or shooting aginst U.S. troops. America knows but these guys are clueless.

It will probably be printed - as long as you left them a phone# for them to verify that it was you who indeed wrote it.
