Us too. We are also told not to travel by air on civilian flights in uniform. Like I said, we are "discouraged" from wearing our uniforms offbase, not ordered. us Aircrew are absolutely NOT allowed to wear our flight suits offbase.

I'm pretty sure that active duty personel can join Fraternal Veteran's groups such as AMVETS and the Legion.
Many Posts operate private Clubs for Members at which adult refreshments may be had, and I don't think anti-smoking laws apply, being a private club and all. I don't think that uniforms would be a problem at all there.
You just don't want to get nailed on a DWI rap on the way back to the Base, of course - bad press and all. So designated driver would probably be the smart way to go, IMHO.
