I guess the big question is whether he has been out of the country in the recent past. Check his passport. My wife and I went to Europe for three weeks back in 2002, we flew into Heathrow (UK) and when we left we flew out of Schiphol (Netherlands). How would anyone know where we went in between? We weren't trying to cover our tracks so looking into ATM records would give you a good idea that we likely spent four days in London, took the Dover ferry to France, picked up a rental car and drove all over - Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, France. There were no borders over there - Very much like Interstate travel here in the U.S.

It is possible that one of the Madrid bombers visited Mayfield here in the states and coincidentally received the shopping bag which made the trip back to Spain. The possibilities are numerous if it is Mayfield's print.

Thanks for the ping. I've been monitoring, but didn't have much to add. If his specialty is explosives related or more likely that there is someone in his mosque with access to military detonators, it might be that he is the intermediary. The fact that he wasn't in Spain means little with Fedex.

Of particular note with the Malaysian guy, Yassaf (sp?), it was his wife's family that prodded him into extremism. I would suggest checking Mayfield's wife's family in Egypt which could be promisng. Wouldn't be surprised to find that she has a brother in the Brotherhood.

One other thing I've been wondering about, is that the Spanish detonations were timed and targeted to disrupt the elections. It was part of a greater plan to separate the U.S. from its allies. The calculations behind that move seemed above the al Qaeda way of thinking and more western in understanding. Something a lawyer would understand.
