Hack used to have the respect of many of us ex-military vets, but, if this is true he has 'more than crossed the line'--to get even with his "perfumed princes" he has insulted every decent person in the military services as well as hurt our Nation--I will reserve my strongest opinions until this is sorted out since the "filthy media" will do enough damage to America and our troops--

CBS did not take the photos to document war crimes. The photos were taken by people in the prison for reasons yet to be determined (intimidating other prisoners, souvenirs, sales to homosexual porn rings, etc).

CBS was given the photos and chose to broadcast them. The situation in the prison had already been corrected, the people who had participated in the illegal acts were already in custody, and court martials are underway.

The report which was released detailed the infractions. The only thing missing were the pictures. Why do you think that the American public and the Arab world needed to see the pictures? When I read "female guards pointing at naked men's genitalia" that is enough for me. I don't need to see it.

BUT, broadcasting the pictures is VERY effective in stirring up resentment in the Arab world, where many pepople are illiterate. And stirring them up gives credence to Al Qaeda and the insurgents.

I fail to see why you do not understant this. And I stand by my position, that CBS is guilty of violating the Geneva Convention.

For me the HACK crossed the line years ago when he set out to destory Admiral Borda (the only CNO to come out of the ranks and a REAL leader).

I wrote him off then as a self serving media whore.

The final myth about his great military genius was finally demonstrated in all of his predictions regarding Afganistan the Iraq...he wasn't right once.

The HACK is a disgrace.

You know, I did my best to give you a reasonable response. You are so committed to your anti-war, anti-Bush position, that as onyx said, it is pointless to have a discussion with you.

Therefore, billbears, as far as I am concerned you may go pound sand.

I hope our government checks out what the political party is of these 'rats and squealers'---sounds like a planned setup using a few POS in the military police---would not be one bit surprised that they were paid off to do their acts and take the pics or maybe I give such trash too much credit for brains--I am glad and proud that I served some 60 yrs ago during WW2 when there was no TV or reporters who wanted to sell our Nation out-may God Bless our troops and protect them from the "filth" that exists in America today-

I don't need to see it.

I suppose if you want a sanitized war its fine.

And I don't believe for one second this was a couple of bad apples (the excuse of any organization). Orders to do this, which would eventually cause us harm in that the world thinks we're the bad guys now, came from up high. Heads need to roll to get the point across: that we need professionalism and to obey the Geneva Convention if we're at all to be taken seriously.

If these photos didn't come out the "investigation" would of stopped with the handful of people shown in the photos.

Oh, really? The general in charge of the prison system had already been relieved of her duty. The information was available begining in January.

The Taluga report has been made public.

But by God, we have to have PICTURES! And why is that? Do they think Americans can't read?

Heads need to roll to get the point across: that we need professionalism and to obey the Geneva Convention if we're at all to be taken seriously.

Article 13 of the third Geneva convention says that POWs should be humanely treated and "protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity".

The six or more who committed the acts in question against the POW's violated the Geneva Convention. Their heads should roll.

The people who released and published the photos in question also violated the Geneva Convention because the release increased the humiliation and public curiosity factor a million fold.

For example if you had these classified photos and if you leaked them to the press then your head should roll.

The POW's have already been humiliated by the acts that were committed on them.

But no, according to lelio, we need to humiliate them even more. Ya, know have everybody in the world see them being dragged like or dog or have everybody in the world see them with a chubby....

As long as their political means is carried to its end, it's swell.

You know, I did my best to give you a reasonable response.

No you didn't. What you did was to condone the coverup of a graver situation and instead blame the messenger for releasing information to the general public. Contrary to your partisan opinion, this information puts no one any more in harm's way than they already were. No troop placements, no tactical intelligence, nothing of the sort was released. Only what can be considered disgusting behavior from twenty-somethings left on their own. You know full well if this was not released nothing would have happened to the soldiers involved

Therefore, billbears, as far as I am concerned you may go pound sand.

Typical

Hypothesis: That at least a number of these pictures were posed, with the full knowledge and tacit permission of officers in the chain of command that were operating in contravention of standing orders for the acceptable and permissible handling of prisoners, that they had exceeded the scope of their direct orders on their own initiative. And that they had done it with the express purpose of embarrassing and compromising the Bush Administration and particularly Secretary Rumsfeld. The plot to carry out this seditious activity came from some of the same big-money interests who have sworn to depose George W. Bush from office by any means available, legal or not.

The timing and the coordinated hit was just too suspicious. And it it was Col. Hackworth, a noted anti-war activist when it comes to the War on Terror, that leaked the photos to CBS, an organization all too quick to publish them.

Oh give me a break, I'm sure your heart is bleeding for the Iraqis. Step back and try and see how idiotic you look trying to defend the indefensable. And that indefensable is the torture and humiliation of the prisoners, not the taking of photos and the release of them.
