It's been good. Shows irakis how a democracy handles a brouhaha like this.

And after they calm down, Irakis will appreciate the apologies by bigwigs like Condi, Amritage, Kimmitt, Miller and now the President. They will contrast with other Arab countries and even their own plight under Saddam.

Will give moderate secularist ProAmericans Arabs some ammo in showing to their countrymen how the US handles its dirty laundry in contrast to their own leaders.

But, I still maintain Rumsfeld must go. This debacle has done irreparable harm to the USA's strategic goals there, and he should take one for the country and the President, seeing how, for a variety of reasons, the systematic abuse falls under his bailiwick.

Rumsfield must go over college hazing?

No apology from me this is war.

I believe our soldiers are innocent of all charges!

I am glad you like how they have handled it. I agree.

As for Rumsfeld I have mixed feelings. I really like the guy. The Economist is now calling for him to resign. You should have a look at it. It makes some interesting points.

I agree that there are many good and valid arguments that Rumsfeld should take this bullet for the president. That is also LOYALTY. It would send and umistakable signal around the world. Send Rumsfeld to the World Bank. It's been done before :-)

But, cynically in an election year I doubt it is going to happen. The democrats would be all over it (In fact they will (and are) all over it already).
