STATEMENT OF SCHINDLER FAMILY TODAY'S DATE:

Family of disabled woman responds to latest ruling in Terri’s Law

Clearwater, FL: Today, the parents of Terri Schindler-Schiavo learned that circuit judge W. Douglas Baird has issued a summary ruling on the constitutionality of Terri’s Law, the law that allowed Governor Jeb Bush to order the return of assisted nutrition and hydration to the disabled Pinellas County woman in October of 2003.

Judge Baird has ruled the law unconstitutional, paving the way for the 40 year-old woman’s feeding tube to be removed for a third time, causing her death.

Statement of Robert Schindler, Sr:

”These Pinellas County judges have displayed an utterly cavalier attitude and a complete disregard for the rule of law. They are aiding and abetting Michael Schiavo in his continuing crimes against Terri and this current order is nothing more than an unjust killing of a young woman who has demonstrated time and again that she very much wants to live.”

“The circuit court didn’t even afford her the benefit of a guardian ad litem,” Conner said. “We think the judge is dead wrong in his assessment that the state doesn’t have a compelling interest that outweighs the encroachment on the so-called privacy right. We couldn’t disagree more.”
