CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, ALL AMERICAN "PITY". If Clearwater wants good PR, we can deliver to them bad PR. Shame on them is the way I see it. They don't deserve to be all american city.
Here are the contact numbers:
City of Clearwater Press Relations: DOUG MATTHEWS #727-562-4661
National Civil League web site: www.ncl.org with a special section on the Top 30 Cities in the Running. EMAIL FOR NCL: gchandler@ncl.org
Thanks in advance. FV

Can you do one simple project for me that would be a major help.
CITY OF CLEARWATER IS POLISHING ITS IMAGE FOR A CONTEST TO BE THE ALL AMERICAN CITY.
I have the phone numbers for the City of Clearwater's Communication Director: DOUG MATTHEWS: PH #727-562-4661 [this is the official contact # and is the ONLY # that should be used!]
*** Please forward this email to your friends to contact Doug Matthews and tell him Clearwater's chances of winning as All American City are slim and none because of Clearwater and Pinellas County's mistreatment of an INNOCENT WOMAN. They can fill in their own remarks beyond that.
IMPORTANT: It's KEY to state that you are not with the attorneys or Terri's family, but are a CONCERNED TAXPAYER FOR JUSTICE IN PINELLAS COUNTY, FLORIDA.

And even beyond the Terri Schiavo issue (which is more of a state issue than a city issue, but still reflects poorly on Clearwater), this is something that the city of Clearwater is probably wasting a pretty good-sized chunk of taxpayer money on. And for what? A press release, and the ability to put some placards under the "Clearwater City Limits" signs that says "ALL-AMERICAN CITY 2004."

Terri can be the poster "child" for human rights. This might turn into something good.

Record of appeals against Judge George Greer's rulings:
http://www.zimp.org/greer.html This is public record from WestLaw with no commentary or remarks added. Lengthy, but worth the read and worth circulating.
Clearwater as the model city? Not as long as our elected officials display such ineptitude and disregard for the law.

I just sent the following email to
The National Civil League.
Dear G.Handler,
It will be a tremendous honor for the American cities that will be among those designated as your Top 30 in this year's list.
By most objective criteria, I am sure the nominees are all wonderful places, and excellent examples of the best and most delightfully liveable cities in our nation today.
However, Clearwater, Florida, whatever its surface merits may be, stands out glaringly in an otherwise first-rate list. It is the single city on the list I personally would never, ever travel to, through, or stop in for a visit. Why? Because of a dark undercurrent in Clearwater that currently dominates everything else. It is serious enough that protest groups have been organized all over the country to publicize what is happening and fight it. Clearwater means only one thing to many of us since last October. You see, I am slightly disabled, and if anything would happen to me there, I would fear for my life. I would fear to be under medical care where Terri Schiavo, a tragically disabled young woman, lies as a virtual prisoner, deprived of all comfort and care beyond basic and grim maintenance, a virtual prisoner whose mother and father are not even permitted to see her, while a court and hospice system work relentlessly to push through a euthanasia agenda. THIS is what Clearwater, and the Pinellas-Pasco County area are known for today. Is THIS an all-American city to hold up to honor, while this is going on?
Whatever Clearwater has to offer, it is a dark place right now, while this blight continues, and does not belong on your list. Please reconsider your choice.
Respectfully submittted,
xxxxx

Looks like this award is like an Academy Award for Cities. CLEARWATER WANTS TO PUT ON A TUX AND SHINE THEIR SHOES and really wants to win this award. Terri's trying to WIN HER VERY LIFE and Clearwater showed it's indifference by their silence.
Email: gchandler@ncl.org if you don't think Clearwater deserves an award based upon excellence in civil rights and civil conduct...
