>The system is set up in such a way that I have to either spend massive amounts of time studying tax law or I must PAY someone to make sure I don't over pay the government!
Why are you surprised by this? I pay a lawyer to ensure my corporate and personal legal affairs are in order, a financial planner and stock adviser to ensure my investments are in order, my physicians to look over my body, my dentist to look after my teeth, a policeman to ensure criminals are rounded up, etc.
I could look after my tax situation, as, with enough study, I could be my own lawyer, doctor, etc.
It's simply more efficient to let a professional handle those things, so I can concentrate on the services I render to clients.

Do you need a professional to help you buy a loaf of bread?
Do you need a profesional to help you pay your gas bill?
Do you need a professional to help you buy gas for your car?
Do you need a professional to help you pay salse tax when you purchase something at a store?
The reason Government taxes it's citizens is to proivde money to run the government; ask yourself why it has to be so complicated.
