Wretchard does have a way with words...

News accounts which suggest that this-still-to-be formed Fallujah Protection Army (FPA) will take over from the Marines, said to be evacuating "front line positions" within a few days, are only slightly less incredible than a report that Batman, the Hulk and Wolverine have joined the Navy to see the world.

Wretchard told us yesterday that the Marines leaving their positions in the Southeast part of the city wasn't the big deal the papers made it out to be...that is the center of the part of the city that we control.

I'm going to stick with my belief that the Marine Captain who said on Wednesday that we haven't even begun to see major offensive operations in Fallujah is closer to the truth than Reuters or the AP.

I did some research and can't find a thing on him.

There has been bits and pieces of info..... floating around that we and the Jordanians were training Iraqis for the last four months in Jordan.

This General who showed up.....is of interest to me.

Did anyone notice what uniform this Iraqi General was wearing today when he showed up in Fallujah?

He had the old Iraqi Army uniform on with the old shoulder boards.

No matter how the Fallujeh situation gets resolved, the press is already reporting it as a U.S. military failure, with ragtag bands of 'rebels' fighting the Army and USMC to a standstill. Get out your barf bags. This, along with Senator Clinton's prediction that America wll fail in Iraq, will precipitate more violence and GI casualties, while the Dem's put on their "I told you so" grins. The Dems are in a position to cause more American bloodshed and profit politically from it, with alot of help from the mainstream media.

Not exactly what I was thinking of. Rather, I was thinking that the Hashemites were the traditional rulers of Jordan, much of what is today Saudi Arabia, and used to lay claim to the Sunni regions of Iraq when it was part of the Othoman Empire. In fact, when Iraq was first assembled at the end of WWI, the British installed a Hashemite King (the grand uncle, I believe, of the current king of Jordan). This guy was thrown out by the the bunch that later brought us Saddam.

What I'm thinking is that maybe, just maybe, our guys are using tribalim to our advantage by introducing a pro-Hashimite faction, trained in Jordan, into Iraq to fight the other tribes there. Maybe even in the name of the King Of Jordan, lawful ruler of Iraq...

I thing the Wahibs in Al Quida think the same. That would explain the attempted massive gas attack in Jordan the other day.

It doesn't really matter how the press or the rats view the situation.

It does matter that the moslems seem to be viewing this as a victory for them and a defeat for the U.S.

This will embolden the running dogs of Mohammed and cost more American lives, no matter what the final outcome.

This is what DoD has wanted to do from Day One--Have the Iraqi faces on the government and military. I read this differently than you do. I think DoS which has blocked this, blocked expenditures of virtually all the $18 billion appropriated for reconstruction and otherwise sabotaged the post-war effort has finally had its leash yanked.

The Falluja Brigade is going into areas already cleaned up or assisting in the blockade. We have the city in a siege, We have driven the thugs into a small, slum area. We have destroyed a lot of their supplies and ammo. We are not leaving. We are limiting ourselves to the hot spot in the center and overseeing the Fallja brigade which is getting a chance to prove itself. We have the ammo, the planes and the fresh supplies.

Your moaning is ridiculously like those idiots who keep saying we should nuke it. Or those fruitcakes who say we need 1oo,ooo's more US troops.

This is a brilliant move for which we have been preparing for months.

That would have been King Faisal I (the same one played by Alec Guinness in LAWRENCE OF ARABIA), who died shortly after his coronation, being succeeded by his son, Ghazi I, who died a few years later, succeeded by his son Faisal II, who's the one who was assassinated by rebel officers in 1959. I believe they were of the same line as the current kings of Jordan, who are hereditary sharifs of Mecca, thus rivals to the Wahabi rulers of Saudi Arabia. Not much love lost among any of them, apparently.

When the drive to Baghdad was halted to allow our air power to devaste the Republican Guard Divisions, the press called that a military failure too.

What matters is not what the press says during the battle but the outcome of the battle.
