Interesting story. I remember there was a lady,2-3 years ago working on photographing a submerged city about 4000 feet deep off the southeast coast of Cuba who had the backing of National Geographic. I wonder whatever happened there?

The energy release to drop something that far that fast would leave no recognizable anything or, for that matter, human survivors within a thousand or more miles of the place.

Not much. Click here for the latest update I can find. Also, the US State department convinced National Geographic to pull funding because of the company's affiliation to the communist government of Cuba.
