There is an outside chance that Jim DeMint won't make it into the runoff. Polls consistantly show Charlie Condon running in third place. He is helped by having a political base in Charleston, where he served as District Attorney for 18 years, and he has almost $1 million in cash-on-hand. The other U.S. Senator (Lindsay Graham) is from upcountry South Carolina, and the downcountry area wants one of its own in the U.S. Senate. Ernest Hollings, the retiring incumbent, is from Charleston. Jim DeMint is from Greenville and David Beasley is from the northeastern part of the state. Condon was a divisive candidate in state elections, but his combination of social conservatism and opposition to free trade could have cross-over appeal in a federal election.

Beasley is also for fair trade not free trade, that means condon and beasley have somehwhat simliar stands.

BUT DEMINT's free stand is a loser in SC in 2004.

If Jim DeMint is elected to anything else we won't have any jobs left in Union County. Apparently Jim DeMint loved the Chineese more than us so let him see if he can get elected for something in mainland China.

DeMint is from the area where BMW created thousands of new high paying jobs. Just today, a Japanese company announced it was adding a 100 or so new jobs in that part of the state. He would be a real hyprocrite to campaign against "outsourcing" while foreign outfits are loading his area with jobs. Having said that, Beasley will beat Taxabaum by 5 to 7 points.

BMW, Euro and Japanese/Koren companies are not the problem, it's the cheap labor in CHINA and NAM, and their min labor laws, etc which is the problem to SC textile industry.

Demint should have said, he's for fair trade not free trade at any cost.
