The agent in the background is the President's lead agent. Has been since sometime in 2002. The agent who had been lead agent on 9/11/01 and stayed with the President all that winter (at least), either retired or moved up the Secret Service ladder. I know they don't talk about their service, but that is one Secret Service agent who I wish would write a book someday about his experiences on and in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. It would provide some important historical perspective.
