If I think we hold the Senate anyway, I am probably going to vote for Hoeffel, unless it is announced beforehand that Specter will NOT be given the Judiciary chair (in which case I'll either vote for him or abstain).

Well then you would be going against the candidate you voted for, Toomey.

...in his concession speech, Mr. Toomey said that differences between him and the Senator were not nearly as great as differences with Democrats...

No one could blame you for casting such a vote. Based upon the final vote tally, Bush and Santorum made a huge blunder when they actively supported Specter. Had they merely said nothing, that would've been [correctly] taken as a vote of no confidence, and Toomey would have won.

They caved to their fear instead of standing up when they had a chance to make a difference. How completely disheartening.
