Schiavo's Parents Ask Judge to Intervene

TAMPA, Fla. — The parents of a severely brain-damaged woman at the center of a right-to-die case say her husband has barred them from visiting her. They are asking a judge to intervene.

The lawsuit is the latest salvo in the long legal battle between Bob and Mary Schindler and Terri Schiavo's (search) husband, Michael -- his wife's legal guardian who is fighting to remove the feeding tube that keeps her alive.

Terri Schiavo 1964-1990 Ecclesiastes 3:2 reminds us that there is “a time to be born, and a time to die.” The problem in the last fifty years is that our bodies don't always die when our mind does thanks to greather speed and techniques of emergency medicine. One-hundred, and most certaintly one-thousand years ago nature itself would not have left the door open for modern deabtes of right to die vs. right to live.

Mother nature, being the nature she is, tells us Terri Schiavo, the person, whom became what she once was, beginning with her birth,  from birth through her adult life by means of experiences; education; tastes; emotions; love; happiness, etc. -- everything that makes us an uniquely coinscious being died in 1990 when her brain cells were deprived of vital-life-sustaining oxygen.

Well said. As you are rather new here, you will be branded a troll. But a lot of Freepers and conservatives believe that Terri died many, many years ago. It's time now to let her really go to a better place.

God has also made it possible for doctors to save lives by means that were unheard of even 20 years ago. These folks mostly go on to live comfortable, if not productive lives. Terri isn't on life support, she's on a feeding tube. That is a big difference.

If Terri were given the therapy that she needs, who knows how she'd be doing right now. There's always a chance for her. I believe in that.

Some of the things that disturb many of us are these facts:
*Terri's original injury was never properly investigated.
*Michael did not remember her wish to die until many years later after he had the money.
*Michael's treatment of Terri and her parents has been sadistic.
*Terri never received the therapy she was supposed to get.
*Starving someone to death is a horrible way to die, something we would not be allowed to do to the worst of criminals.
*Michael, who has a mistress and two illegitimate children, should never be allowed to be Terri's guardian.
*Michael has prevented Terri's parents from visiting her. This is done purely to cause pain.

This is just a partial list of what troubles me about this case.

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks for the truth of Your Word ... that in Your hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. Thank You for the life of this mother's child ... disabled but not dying. Thank You that You have graced the medical profession with alternate means of nutrition ... thank You that therapies and treatments are available to stimulate and enhance ... thank You for learned men and women who are willing to provide all of this for Terri. Bind up the broken hearts of her parents, for they have longed to make this available to her these many years.

Quicken our hearts, O God ... remind us that each time we touch the face of our dear child, Terri's parents cannot. Remind us that each time we delight in the sunshine, Terri cannot. Draw her out of this prison, Merciful Father, for the prison of her disability is nothing compared to the prison consigned to her by man. May the Holy Spirit pierce the hearts of those who dismiss her as meaningless ... may they repent and relent. Break the chains that bind this innocent woman, for the Name of Jesus is stronger than all the evil forces that have gathered against her. As the mother of a severely mentally and physically disabled 19 year old daughter who neither walks nor talks, and who wears diapers and cannot feed herself, and who LOVES going for rides in the school bus and car and is VERY loving, and who is VERY much wanted and LOVED (as is Terri Schiavo), I was just wondering...Since you seem to think one human should be lawfully able to decide when another human is worthwhile, just what should we do with YOU since you appear to have lost YOUR brain cells?
