Rove just doesn't get this.

Easy fella. Rove knows exactly what he's doing. He got Dubya in the White House once and he's going to keep him there for 4 more years, your vote or not.

Rove was so smart that he almost lost the election in the last two days in 2000. Instead of exposing the DUI early in the summer, he let the Dems exploit the opportunity for a last second surprise that turned the last second undecideds and chased away a significant number of religious voters. A blowout was turned into a popular vote loss and the smallest possible electoral victory (depending on less than a thousand votes). I'd rather see Ralph Reed running things than Rove. Reed delivers crushing victories. Rove delivers narrow victories and defeats.

I wonder if the situation were reversed how we would feel. Suppose a conservative incumbent GOP Senator from . . . oh, maybe somehow he gets elected in Connecticut is facing a primary challenge from the "center" or "left" and the GOP president of the moment was also squishy as a centrist or to the left.

Both these things can happen. Suppose Bush's DUI had been splashed in 2000 the day of the South Carolina primary and McCain had won that night. And suppose our hypothetical GOP conservative from CT got elected because two nights before election day the Dem opponent lost his mind and got drunk and wound up on camera using the N word or whatever.

So there we are, McCain is president and we have a staunch conservative facing a leftist in the primary. Would you have McCain support his philosophical preference? Or would you have him support the incumbent?

You have to support the incumbent. It's how you hold the majority. Incumbents raise money more easily. They have big advantages. You can't squander them.

That's precisely how RINOs govern, as if conservatives are the enemy. They want us to vote for them because they are "electable" and then when we need a judge confirmed or a bill signed or some socialist bill killed, the RINOs stab us in the back and vote like a Democrat. If you don't believe me, just look at a)Medicare boondoggle, b)Campaign Finance Reform, c)Miguel Estrada.

It's sickening. The only thing that prevents your RINO ship from being abandoned is the realization that RINOs only screw us 60% of the time and Democrats do it 95% of the time. The only difference between a RINO and a Democrat is that the Democrat lies to the voters about what he is. The RINO just lies to his own party about what he is.

Let's review the 2000 campaign...

Instead of using money in various winnable battleground states like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, he blew the campaign budget on California, which, since Pete Wilson pissed on just about everybody in one way or another, was, is, and always will be a lost cause for non-movie star Pubbies. Then, he failed to recognize that Florida became a battleground state. Finally, his post-election strategy in Florida (and lack of post-election strategy in Iowa, New Mexico and Wisconsin) literally put the White House within minutes of being Algore's.
