The relay node sites are of interest...given Gettysburg area is the evacuation site for Balt/Wash maybe Phillipsburg is the one for the NJ Palisades area/NYC ?
Sorry I missed this in the posts, but what is the Phillipsburg connection with GWEN? Are you speaking of Phillipsburg, NJ? (I used to live there!)
Hi DC- I don't have time to post today unfortunately, but I looked up more stuff on GWEN. Last night the towers were not flashing red, but solid red.
Apparently the system can be used not only to launch forces, but for "crowd control" and for dealing with disruptions/terrorist actions at critical facilities re: nuclear plants.
If the East coast nuke facilities are threatened- perhaps that is why the system is activated.
Also, there has been mention of disruptions to GPS- I think the new systems (milstar related) which were replacing Gwen use satellites and GPS. Maybe they need the GWEN as a backup. (Wish I still had a tv with tubes...not electronics...could still watch the Apprentice after an EMP attack :) )
Or it might be for deterrence- "If you knock out our communications we can still control our forces".
