Can we start a rule of engagement for this thread that when all the military tactical "experts" on FreeRepublic start detailing the military strategy we SHOULD be using, they add their actual military expertise to back up their opinion.

But how will this be perceived by the Fallujah insurgents?

Because the President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, not the other way around.

.
I'll believe Bush is micromanaging the war when I see PROOF that he is.

Marine sniper operations are having a lot of success and gunships are being used against concentrated or fortified targets. I really don't think this will last much longer. The press wants to give the impression that the war is being micro-managed.

The Islamists have at least a few thousand human sheilds within the city protecting them. Some of those are going to be shot now anyway, so that the terrorists can then stage a propoganda victory by blaming the shootings on the Americans.

One of the things that may be happening is that the jihadi are being ground down. Marine Sniper Scouts are having an absolute field day over there, and I strongly suspect that it was decided that the enemy could be cordoned and sliced up quietly.
The jihadis have been trying to break out because they are trapped. They came out and fought us in one location, and now we'll pick them off in detail.
If we go in hellsbells, we are likely to lose guys the Jenin way-boobytraps and countersniping. Now there are ways around that, but I strongly suspect that, given the fact that Sadr has been completely deballed, it has been decided that there is no rush to wrap up Fallujah.
Of course, this is all moot. The stupid rags will see this as weakness and begin a series of attacks. Then we'll be forced to crush them.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

I read on another thread that the situation is a little different in Falujah than what we are lead to believe. I don't think GWB would go lightly if the situation warrants otherwise. Time will tell on this one.

Thus far, I believe the president has let the military decide what it needs to do in taking Iraq and Afghanistan.
This smells of politics, not military operations. That would be a disappointment.

Well, that's the kicker, isn't it.
We're damned trapped by the John Kerry's of this world. Their treasonous behavior is limiting US freedom of action. That's the real core of this.
We can't expect the President to do things we all know, in truth, would not be supported by an overwhelming majority of the American people- as propagandized as they are by the media.
That's the real core. It's hard to fight a war when you've got enemies in your rear.
To: Mamzelle
well, the ones who have been dying at a steady clip don't have any perceptions any more.
but for those who remain, let's see what happens. i'll admit, if we see a white UN vehicle handing out donuts to people in fallujah waving AK47s, I'll be very upset.

LOL (I was thinking something similar before I opened the thread.)
To: section9
actually, that is a good point. there is an element there that want to fight to the death, and any talk like this might actually cause them to mass for one last big move (as best as they can muster).
To: threat matrix
No guts...
If this is true, the war is lost.

In a functional system, military and poltiical considerations must be balanced. You can't undertake military operations without political support and you can't take a political course without the necessary support of the armed forces.
Churhcill, Lincoln- all of the best war leaders of the West didn't listen to the mlitary all of the time. Most of the time, yes.
In any case, what others are saying makes sense to me- these "insurgents" are being rapidly destroyed anyways. All an "all-out" offensive would do is intensify the media situation.
To: threat matrix
Are we supposed to actually be hearing a siren noise? I never do.
And if this is ture about no full-scale offensive, then we're on the road to this being a big waste of time. These pukes already hate, and the more of them we allow to run around killing us, the more of our troops that will be killed.
This is Arab appeasement - do the sensible, humane thing like trying to work out a peaceful solution, and you're regarded as a pussy and will further embolden the enemy to come after you. Hooray for political correctness and ethnic sensitivity!

GODDAMMIT!!! Unfortunatley, you are exactly right... We are going to go right back to having our guys picked off in ambushes again. This is such a load of crap!!!
WWAAAHHHHH, WWAAAHHHHH we don't want the arabs pissed at us >sarcasm. We should LEVEL places like Fallujah and Najaf, let the arabs get good and pissed at us for a period of time and it will eventually subside. This is going to get more guys killed because we are acting like pus*ies and it's time to STOP!!!
To: dinok
Oh, calm the hell down. Even if the absolute worst you can dream up about this is true, the war is hardly "lost."
This is hardly a Fredsricksberg or Chacellorsvile, even in the worst nightmares of the worst recesses of your mind.
