by Mel Tillis, then Kenny Rogers
did a re-make of it somewhere in the late '70s

Well, I think "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" must get an exemption because of this line:

I mean, contemplating homicide to a beat and a tune has to count for something, doesn't it?
