The 357 SIG (read 357Mag) shares no traits with the 9mm. I understand the loyalty with the 45, I love mine, but its like that old pickup, good in its day but now we have things like computers and advanced technology that makes thing function better and more efficiently. Neither 9mm or the 45 are worth a crap when talking body armor, true the 45 may have more knockdown, but the 9mm has more velocity. I also know that if someone is wearing armor and I have the chance I will take them in the head at as great a distance as I can, and that will be a good bit farther then it would be with the 45.

Question:

You're in the open, say a parking lot. You've just stepped out of your vehicle and started walking toward an area where a citizen has supposedly reported "suspicious" activity.
Hamid the home grown Islamic ex gang banger steps out from behind a tree and begins to bring his AK type weapon around to bear on you. You have time to observe three things. 1; Hamid is @ 20 meters away, 2; he's got some sort of heavy vest on, and 3; (this is the one that really causes the pucker factor to go up a few degrees) You have no where to go, no cover. you are in the OPEN. The little voice in your head that tell when things are about to get really crappy is screaming and you are going to do what.
Go for the head shot...
...or nail him in the body 3 times. I'm betting that you'll do the same as I did. Go for the body, and I'll bet that the 3 Speer 230 grn "flying ashtrays" I hit him with from my Ruger would do a better job than your 357 Sig.
I KNOW my .45 acp works. Are you willing to bet your ass on some Swiss engineer and an American marketing team.
I'm not.
