Nice links. The single vehicle crash (bike only) numbers are higher than I would have thought. Seems though, if you can ride competently, don't have a penchant for getting in over your head (particularly in corners) and don't ride under the influence, you'll miss most of these. Most of the close calls I've had have been of the dumb cager type.

And that my friend is the long and short of it. Getting killed by an incompetent cager is not as common as everyone thinks.
I've had some close calls myself but since I wasn't boozing it and was keeping an eye on everything around me I was able to avoid them.
I'm not ashamed to say that I've taken a few motorcycle safety courses and doing so has saved my behind.
