Syria is getting help from somewhere, as is Iran. Could it be that is what the liberals mean when they seek to recreate the "vietnam syndrome" over this war in Iraq.
The communists were funding and supplying Vietnam in Vietnam and in the US. Maybe there is a world wide communists conspiracy funding these of Syria and Iran to give the appearance of Vietnam again, while the communists of the world fund the liberals campaigns during this election year.

"Then increase the pressure: Call for Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon in the Security Council."
Brookes hits on the next step. Take Lebanon away from Syria. Keep drying up the swamp that is the Middle East.

I think we just bring in another heavy division and station it on the border, and make clear to Syria that if they don't behave, they go away. Perhaps with an intermediary step...something along the lines of looking up terrorist organizations in the Damascus phone book, then having B52 strikes on the addresses. Of course, B-52's dropping dump iron bombs are not exactly precision, but hey.
I think one of the problems is that Syria knows the US has a history of cleaning up messes and knows our clean up resources are stretched thin. We treat our vanquished enemies better than our true allies. We cannot undertake a rebuilding of Syria now. They think that means that we cannot take them out. They need to know that we have the option of destroying them, then leaving them in their cesspool of a country.

There is no doubt about the role of Syria in what is hapening in Iraq. Why they could control the border when their Baathist brothers were in power?
The thugs who are fighting in Iraq are calling them selves Shek Yassin' brigade. on Aljazera channel. Iraqi's will never call themselves after this man. They need to be punished or they will continue their way of thinking and behaving. They are same as Saddam, look at the mass murder and imprisonment of kurds in Heleb and Qamishlo.
