Ford Upset by Web Ad Showing Decapitation

Sun Apr 18, 7:14 PM ET Add Technology - AP to My Yahoo!

DEARBORN, Mich. - Ford Motor Co. is upset by the release of an Internet advertisement that depicts the decapitation of a computer-animated cat by a power moonroof hatch, saying it didn't authorize the clip.

The ad for the Sportka, a hatchback sold in Europe, shows the realistic-looking orange cat climbing on top of the car and poking its head into the open moonroof, The Detroit News reported Sunday. The hatch slides closed, the cat struggles briefly and its headless body slides to the ground.

Ford says the clip was conceived without its approval by ad agency Ogilvy & Mather as part of a "viral marketing" campaign for the Sportka. "Viral marketing," a type of e-mail marketing, is the electronic version of word of mouth, usually inviting recipients to forward an e-mail to others.

"We find this unauthorized ad totally unacceptable and reprehensible and deplore the fact that it has been unofficially issued," Ford spokesman Oscar Suris said.

Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide issued a statement saying it also didn't sanction the commercial, which was leaked onto the Internet on April 1.

"Both companies find this unofficial advertisement totally unacceptable and reprehensible," the statement said. "The action in the video clip was totally computer generated, and we would like to assure you that no animal was harmed in its making."

Well, jlo, I'm a lot newer than nuconvert, and I don't need to read around any more to know sick perverted advertising when I see it. Or did you mean that a person has to be a freeper longer (and if so how long, and where is that rule posted?) before they're allowed to express an opinion contrary to others?
I saw another thread on this subject and posted there. Here's a link ....... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1120304/posts?page=28#28.
Get a clue .... these companies could have made an animated ad. They chose to make as realistic an ad as they could and one that obviously disturbs people. [even if you're immune] That should tell you something about them.

Great. Now we all know the level of your mentality. You're exactly the type person they make these ads for.
Enjoy.
Just don't complain about too much violence or crime in the world today. You're helping to promote it right now.
Carry on

OMG, I almost forgot about meeses to pieces. I loved that show. That being said, when that bird flies off the Sportka b/c the Sportka doesn't want the bird on it, well, I laugh. Hee hee. Btw, isn't the Simpson's Itchy and Scratchy just a kind of macabre spoof (or rip-off) of Pixie and Mixie and Mr. Jinx??

"I saw it...It doesn't look fake to me.
It's animal cruelty."

uh huh. So, expensive 3D animation packages don't exist, or the images they render can obviously be detected as fakes on compressed, low-resolution web video.

And of course, the same software is used to render things like spiderman in major hollywood movies and shown on 50 foot tall screens where people can't really tell what is the 3d output and what is the actor.

But obviously you see through that and you saw that it was real and therefore animal cruelty. But without blood.

Hey Kid, I'm old enough to be your Grandma. Old or new, folks see things differently. Age may play a really big part! I've heard and read alot in my 53 years. Nothing - and I mean it - nothing shocks me anymore.

(ps, I couldn't belive a nasty letter printed in the TV guide, just received.) Complaint was about all the cussing on 'Deadwood' series.
Good grief, good over it, already.) TV guide said David Milch (sp?) already verified that they talked that way back then and went on to say any of us in THIS generation --- did NOT invent the terms (much to the chagrin of the now generation, who thought THEY invented it).

Hello??? Anyone listening?

LOL!!

Well, you'd have to augment the electric motor for the sunroof with a pneumatic or fast-acting hydraulic unit. But it could be done, and I could build it.

After all I designed and built the 24,000 volt, neon-sign transformer powered electric birdfeeder.

Do tell. And here I thought the story involving the crows and the baited tethered trebel hooks was interesting. :-)

You shouldn't take people's "handles" literally.
I was a kid, once. You'd have to tack on a number of decades to be my grandma. You'd have to tack on a few to be my ma.

I have no idea what the rest of your post is about.
