Well, reading the Word of God will teach you that God is a God of Love and a God of Justice. He clearly proscribes sexual immorality because of its harmful consequences - be they physical, emotional or spiritual. If we do not listen to His Word long written down, we will pay for sin's consequences. This applies with respect to all types of rebellion against His will:
"Be not decided; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." Galatians 6:7-8
Yes, we are to love our "enemies," but we also are to hate sin just as God does. We are not to ignore His will. Hopefully, those who've been sticken with any type of calamity will turn to Him. He wants all of us to be His children through faith in Jesus Christ.
Taking the words of the Bible literally is not always pretty. The above quote was used as a reason to say that slavery was just peachy. Today, some say it was a different time then, as a defense. It's repulsive now and then and forever.
I also don't believe that adulterers should be killed. Do you?
