You wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep because you dreamed someone pinged you and you're afraid you might miss something important if you don't check for new posts to you.

And worse....I have the pager open all the time and my computer is on all the time when I am home so I will be in bed sometimes and hear the pager ping and I just can't go to sleep till I get up and check it out.
