****Let's not forget that the occupation of Germany took six years, and there was no resistance in Germany or Japan after their surrender. Germany and Japan recognized and accepted defeat. Their government and military were disseminated. There were curfews in place and people weren't armed. German western culture allowed for a smooth transition to democracy, and it allowed the allied forces such as the US, England, Soviet Union and France to rebuild Germany.****

Well yes! That's my point. Surely you see it. Establishing democracy in Iraq while the country is full of armed men and caches of weapons is impossible. First pacification, and that historically has meant the killing of a huge proportion of the fighting age males, removal of all weapons and then nation building. Bush is going about it assbackwards. It's a sure recipe for death and disaster ... for OUR men in uniform. This is unforgivable.

You are so dense. What kind of argument is, 'shut up, you are dumb.' Are you about 14? I hold a radically different view than yours. I know that's tough for you to swallow here on FR the RW PC platform but get used to it.

There is someone out hear that does not hold to your one tracked low brow uneducated view of the world. Get used to it.

Well, I trust our military, and I have faith in our President. I'm not about to surrender.

Sometimes I wonder what history teachers are teaching kids.

Our grandparents and great grandparents knew what was at stake in WWII. Roosevelt didn't need to worry that 40 percent of the electorate would hate America no matter what and another 20 percent were so clueless they would believe anything.

In today's world, every politician has to worry about what his actions will look like on the 10 o'clock news. The press does not want leaders who are decisive or effective. They want vacillating wimps who make decisions based on getting a hummer from a thonged fat chick. It is easier to control them, and easy to make decisiveness look like extremism.

This thing will be handled, in a month it won't seem like all that. But Sadr should have been put on a cold slab when the little jerk first started making trouble.
